Project APPLAUD

Mitch Stuart, SAAC liaison to APPLAUD.
APPLAUD is a National Service Inclusion Project for adults with disabilities. The project is designed to identify and enroll adults with various disabilities in national service programs in Hawaii. APPLAUD will work to fill 1-2 AmeriCorps positions within an 18 month period from October 2006-March 2008. APPLAUD staff will facilitate training, recruitment and expedite program goals leading to sustainability of volunteers with disabilities in AmeriCorps programs beyond the grant period.
The project involves a partnership between the Hawaii Commission on the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the Self-Advocacy Advisory Committee (SAAC), a newly-developed local organization run by individuals with developmental disabilities and the Center on Disability Studies Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC).
The project dovetails with the Alliance for Inclusion Advancement-Hawaii a capacity building project funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The AIA-HI staff will implement and facilitate the APPLAUD project. For more information on AIA-HI see our Web site at www.aia.hawaii.edu.
